Who is this Khun Pobaan anyway?

It's a good question. Khun Pobaan (whose name translates roughly from the Thai as 'Mr Househusband') is the diarist who brought you the popular Pattaya Today column, 'The View From The Hill'. Those columns were issued in book form as 'If You Can't Stand The Fun, Stay Out Of The Go-Go', more details of which are available here.

Due to huge popular acclaim, that collection was followed by a second volume 'Return to the Go-Go', which is covered in some detial here.

For those who want to risk wit overload, the two books are available as an omnibus.

Academics have debated, often quite bitterly, how closely Khun Pobaan resembles me in character. Could a real person (as I claim to be) really be that gormless? Psychologists in their turn have proposed that Khun Pobaan is merely a part of my personality (the one that walks around with its mouth open, marvelling at the wonders of this part of the world, meaning Thailand) and that issuing essays under Khun Pobaan's by-line is a subconscious technique by me to avoid having to confront the big issues.

To which I say, 'No, it wasn't subconscious.'
